lyrics

What kind of a king makes his bed in a trough,
Makes his start in a manger in swaddling cloth?
What kind of a king shakes omnipotence off,
Takes the form of a babe for the rebels he lost?

What kind of a king speaks in riddles and lines
To tell of a kingdom, a pearl of great price?
A field full of treasure with joy you can buy
Sell all you hold precious, for all that you’ll find.

What kind of a king opens up the eyes of the blind?
Reinstating a kingdom for those who were once destined to die
Whom, by his death, He revives

What kind of a kingdom belongs to the poor
Who know they are needy and longing for more?
What kind of a kingdom flings open its doors
To those who are martyred and beaten and scourged?

What kind of a king bottles up the tears His servants cry?
Bringing forth now a kingdom where you are invited to true life
To follow Christ crucified

A king that with mere words
Can calm the raging storms
Yet welcomes children to His side
In the kingdom he brings forth
The last one shall be first
Only a child’s faith will suffice
You must serve all to rank high
For, to gain life, you must die

What kind of a king is enthroned on a cross?
The shame of a criminal, the ultimate cost
And mine was the life, by His blood, that He bought
And ours, the redemption, the joy that He sought

What kind of a king yields Himself to death’s darkest night?
From the depths of Hell’s darkness, resurrects in glorious light
Turning death into life

What kind of a king makes his bed in a trough
Makes his start in a manger in swaddling cloth?
Who reigns now in glory, redeeming the lost
And calls me to follow and pick up my cross
